Outfit Inspiration {simple summer dress}

With summer vacation only 5 school days away, all I have on my mind is relaxation, hanging out with friends, and taking some fun trips! I usually just wear a comfortable pair of shorts and a tee when I'm lounging around the house or heading to the gym, but, when I'm going out, I definitely want my outfits to be as summer-y as possible! I love wearing sundresses because they're so simple and easy (but people get the impression that you're super dressed up)! This embroidered white dress just screams summer and effortlessness...I fell in love when I saw it! The detailing on the dress is too pretty to take away from, so I paired it with some simple accessories. Madewell's leather totes are so simple, versatile, and chic! These leather sandals, although quite an investment, are perfect with this dress (I'm getting a sophisticated, but laid back, world-traveler kind of vibe from the entire outfit). If you're wearing this dress to the beach, a floppy hat is the perfect accessory. Big, tortoiseshell sunglasses are a must for me, and they go so well with this outfit. I can't wait to wear something like this out during the summer!

What do you think of this outfit?

Kale & Blueberry Smootie

I was never a huge fan of green smoothies because, well...they tasted too much like veggies! The green color turned me off and the taste wasn't one that I was used to. But, I started trying smoothies that incorporated both fruits, veggies, and something sweet (like peanut butter) and I loved them. I love this smoothie because not only are you getting enough serving of fruits and vegetable for the day, it's naturally sweet and so healthy for you. Don't be afraid of the color of the smoothie...the dark peel of the antioxidant rich blueberries and kale is what causes that. Try it out and I'm sure you will love it!

  • 3/4 cups organic (frozen) blueberries
  • 1 cup loose baby kale
  • 1 tbsp organic peanut butter (or any other nut butter)
  • 3/4 cups almond milk (for sweeter smoothie try vanilla almond milk)
  • 1/2 a ripe banana
  • 1/2 cup ice
Place ingredients in blender and mix until smooth.

What's your favorite green smoothie? I'm dying to try out some new recipes...xo jessica

Happy Weekend {+Links}

Happy holiday weekend everyone! I apologize for the lack of posts this week but with the end of school comes a ton of finals (and stress!). I'm too excited for sunny weather, family time, and a trip to Six Flags this weekend. Staying Healthy with BKR

Staying healthy and fit is not as simple as it seems! Taking time out of your day to hit the gym or trying new cleanses isn't always fun or easy (or cheap)! I find that the little things are just as important to your health as tiring workout sessions and week long diets! Swapping sweet/salty snack for low-cal ones ( boom chicka pop popcorn and kind bars are my fave) and implementing healthy eating habits into your daily diet are easy ways to live a healthier life! Staying hydrating may be the most fundamental to maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle. Women should be drinking about 2 liters a water per day...that's 9 cups! I started drinking more water throughout the day and have found myselfy more energetic even after a long hours. Hydration helps with clear skin, energy levels, boosts immune systems, and so much more! So with this new resolution to drink more water...I wanted to find a cute alternative to plastic bottles. I have been seeing bkr bottles all over social media...Instagram, Twitter,  blogs, you name it, but I was never sure what all the hype was about. So, of course, I knew I had to order one! I had trouble choosing just one color out of the dozens fun, bright colors to choose from but I settled for a milky white! It's so sleek, chic, and simple...I just can't get enough if it and I'm excited to gift these bottles to friends and family (and maybe for myself:) ).

If you thought it was impossible to get addicted to a water bottle...think again!

Do you have a bkr? Do you love it?

Weekend Uniform {5.16.14}

TGIF! I can't tell you how happy I am that the weekend is here. To say I had a stressful week would be an understatement (three AP tests later..I'm still alive)! I'm happy for a chance to relax and excited for brunch with my bff tomorrow! The weather has been super indecisive lately, hot and humid some days but breezy and warm on others. The weather is supposed to be warm so I'll be recreating this outfit (with variations) this weekend. I seem to gravitate towards blues and closet is filled with striped tops. I'm wearing this light, breezy blue striped top and pale pink flats from J. Crew with a pair of dark wash jeans. My Kate Spade bag is making another appearance (of course) and I loved the contrast of pink and blue. I was worried the hot pink wouldn't match with anything in my wardrobe, but it surprisingly goes well, and contrasts perfectly, with almost every outfit I wear. This has definitely been my weekend uniform as of lately..I can trade the jeans for a pair of chino shorts and the flats for a pair of sandals in the weather gets warmer.

Ps. What do you guy's think of my new shorter hair? I'm loving how it looks with loose simple and easy but so chic!

What's your weekend uniform? xo jessica

Summer Hairstyle {The Log Bob}

The Log Bob

Have you ever had the urge to completely change your hair? I mean taking off ten inches, adding some cute fringe bangs, or permanently straightening it? I've been contemplating cutting my hair for a while now and I finally got the courage to take off about nine inches. I decided to go for a longer the ends hit just below my shoulders.

Whenever I go to a salon I always bring pictures of how I want my hair to look so the stylist can have an image in their minds when they're cutting. I was inspired by the cuts and style of these five beautiful ladies and knew I wanted to try out their hairstyles. The long bob is perfect for summer weather because you can still curl it, straighten it, braid it, or put it in a bun while not having to deal with your long and heavy hair. I'm so happy with my decision to change up my style and sport this shorter will definitely be on the blog soon!

Behind the Blog {stripes & peonies}

      Have you ever wondered what an singer or celebrity is like in person? too. As a fellow blogger, I'm also always intrigued by the personalites and lifestyles of the stylish girls behind the blogs I follow! A blog only reveals so much about a person, mainly their fashion sense, but I want to know more about the reason behind their blog and what they're in real life, not just through instagram pictures and blog posts.

Stripes & Peonies

I have been a reader of the blog Stripes & Peonies for a while now, and I must say, it's one of my favorites. The girl behind the blog is Gracey Wallace, a teen blogger from Texas with a love for fashion and of course, peonies. Stripes & Peonies' design is simple, elegant, and so feminine. Not only does she run a beautiful blog, but her Instagram is swoon-worthy too (I love the pops of pink on her feed!) Cute outfit of the day posts, recipes, weekend links, and advice are just a few of the things that you'll find on her blog.

I got the chance to ask Gracey a few questions about her style, blog, and life. Head on over the her blog and I'm sure you'll be just as obsessed as I am.

1. What made you want to become a blogger? Did any other bloggers have a major impact on your decision

I really didn't know what I was getting into when I made a blog. I went through a couple months of trial and error and finally settled on the final product, Stripes & Peonies. I've always had an interest in fashion and photography, so naturally, creating a blog was a perfect fit for me. Mackenzie Horan's Design Darling was the first blog I ever read and made me want to start one!

2. Has your style changed since you started Stripes & Peonies? If so, why do you think that happened?

Definitely. Before I started S&P I was stuck in a style rut and not really a defined sense of style. Blogging has influenced my style for the better. I've coined my personal style "prep with an edge". With all the new people, styles, and blogs I've been introduced to, it's no secret that all of these people have influenced me.

3. What would be three words you would use to describe your style
classic. preppy. feminine

4. What would be the 3 things a blogger can't live without?
Social media, any type of electronics, the wonderful followers of his/her blog ;)

5. What would you say goes into getting the perfect Instagram shot?
It's all about the light! I always opt for bright pictures with high exposures. I use VSCO cam to lighten my pictures. It also comes down to the colors too. Bright colors bring more people to the like button.

6. As a fellow young blogger, I struggle with finding time to set aside just for blogging. How do you handle school, social life, and blogging?
I actually recently wrote a post on this topic. Of course, school always comes first. At times, everything gets difficult to balance, but things are starting to cool down now that summer is on its way! With blogging, everything else is a balancing act.

7. Any tips for bloggers wanting to grow their site?
Keep blogging! If you think your blog is going nowhere giving up is the worst thing you can do. Make sure you get your name and blog out there on social media, as social media is a very effective tool for growing your blog and readership.

8. Do you have any fun upcoming projects/posts we can begin looking forward to?

Yes! I'm planning some giveaways for the summer and I'm going to have a ton of travel posts this summer! I also have something big in the works, but I can't say anything just yet. You'll just have to wait and see. :)

Are you a fan of Stripes & Peonies?

The Perfect Bikini

the Perfect Bikini

(Jcrew top & bottom, Madewell top & bottom, Tory Burch top & bottom, Topshop top & bottom)
Am I the only one counting down the days until summer starts? Yea...I didn't think so. The weather has been so warm lately and that means pulling out my shorts, sandals, and sundresses. But when I think of summer, I think of a vacation by the beach...and what's a beach necessity? A cute bikini, of course! I have always been a fan of bikinis over one pieces so here are a few cute options for the perfect summer necessity!  For a swimsuit, I'm definitely more attracted to fun, bright, and printed sets (a cute patterned bikini will surely make you stand out on the beach)!

Which one is your favorite? (I'm loving the top left one!) - jessica

OOTD {5.10.14}

Today's weather is absolutely perfect! It's hot and sunny...just the way I like it. So I decided to take advantage of this beautiful day and wear the jumpsuit that I've been dying to wear since months ago. I love the pattern on it (very tribal/beachy) and I also like the simple shape of it. I paired it with my go-to sandals and a dainty initial necklace. very simple. Jumpsuits are so easy and comfortable and I will definitely be adding more to my closet this summer.

What are your opinions on jumpsuits? xo jessica

Get The Look {Matching tops & bottoms}

Considering the amount of time I spend reading fashion blogs and liking Instagram pictures of outfits and clothing, I would like to think of myself as somewhat as an expert of the most recent fashion trends of the seasons. Lately, I have been seeing prints everywhere. Not only have I been seeing a cute pair of printed pants, but a printed short/skirt and top! I was never too big on prints myself, however, lately I have been drawn to florals and classic patterns! I'm just dying to try out this look.

(Here are two of my favorite blogger sporting a matching printed outfit!)

Makeup Essentials

For the face: After using moisturizer, I apply concealer under my eyes as well as on any blemishes that I want to cover. I finish this off with mineral powder.

I use a light pink blush to add a subtle hint of color to my cheeks. If I want to define my brows, I will either use an eyebrow gel or pencil.

  For the eyes: first I curl my lashes, this will help you lashes form into a more dramatic shape. Next apply 1-2 coats of mascara. My favorite is Benefit's "They're Real". If I'm going for a more dramatic look I apply eyeliner before applying mascara.

Before I leave, I always spray I little bit of perfume on my neck and the insides of my wrists. I'm loving "Dot" right now... And finally, lip gloss. For my daily look, I stick with a natural, light pink color.

These are my makeup essentials...what are yours?! xoxo jessica
