Her blog is so chic and simple!
I need this sationary in my life:)
Happy Monday everyone! I apologize for the complete lack of posts last week! It's been a while since my last "Behind the Blog" post so I'm excited to share with you this interview I did with Melissa, the blogger behind The Atelier! Not only is she a blogger, but she also owns her own online boutique (that goes by the same name) where she sells stationary and accessories...all featuring her artwork! Another fun fact that I found out is that she lives only about 30mins away from me!! I asked her a few questions about her daily life and the inspiration behind her work...enjoy!
- The word “atelier” means studio or workshop in French (my favorite language). I chose The Atelier because, to me, it’s a beautiful word the represents the fashion, design and creative aspects of my brand.
2. When did you begin illustrating? Did you always dream of selling your work?
- I’ve always sketched and doodled for fun, but I started illustrating as a hobby about two years ago, and the rest is history! I’ve dreamt of creating and selling my own product line for as long as I can remember – specifically stylish gifts and women’s accessories – so it’s wonderful to be doing what I love and working towards growing my business (and dream!).
3. How would you define your personal style?
- Classic & effortless, with a twist. I love mixing feminine with masculine, high with low, and classic pieces with statement pieces.
4. Do you think your style has changed since the start of your blog?
- My style is always evolving, but overall I’ve always kind of had a similar aesthetic. I think what I’ve learned is to simplify, invest in quality pieces, and only wear what I love and what makes me feel like the best version of my self.
5. What is your go-to outfit on a typical day?
- On a typical fall day you’ll find me in skinny jeans, ankle booties, a jacket or blazer, a big scarf and a slouchy tee. And earrings. Always earrings.
6. If you weren't working as the owner of The Atelier what would you be doing?
- It would have to be something creative! Like product design or creative direction at a fashion company or design firm.
7. Are there any blogs that you read regularly?
- Yes! I love reading blogs. My recent favorites are all over the place. Lately I’m loving Ann Street Studio, Meg Biram’s blog, A Cup of Jo, Cheetah is the New Black, and A Piece of Toast.
8. Lastly, do you have any tips that you can share on starting your own business?
- I actually dedicated an entire blog post to it! (here if you want to link) But to summarize the most important things I’ve learned are to trust your gut and take a deep breath. Nothing happens overnight, it is difficult, and sometimes frustrating, but if you work hard and believe in what you’re doing, great things will happen.
